Do I qualify for TMS Therapy Under Medical Insurance?

TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) has shown promising results in treating a range of mental health disorders, including Major Depression, Generalized Anxiety, PTSD, OCD, Bipolar Depression, and even for smoking cessation. However, insurance coverage primarily applies to Treatment-Resistant Major Depression (TRD).

  • Age: 18 years or older
  • Diagnosis: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
  • Treatment History:
    • Tried 1-4 antidepressant medications without significant improvement
    • Experienced intolerable side effects from medications
    • Completed a course of psychotherapy without success
  • Exclusions:
    • Current psychotic symptoms
    • Active substance or alcohol abuse
    • History of seizures
    • Presence of incompatible medical devices or metallic objects above the neck

Some insurers also offer limited coverage for newer FDA-approved indications, such as OCD and smoking cessation. However, coverage for other conditions remains restricted.

A streamlined, price transparent approach to patient care Some patients discover that our out-of-pocket rates are more affordable than their insurance costs, particularly if they have a high deductible and opt to pay directly. We provide both in-person and Telehealth appointments, as well as a hybrid option, with the same fees for all appointment types.

TMS has been FDA-approved since 2008 and is covered by most major insurance providers for TRD. While the treatment may have upfront costs, studies show it is often more cost-effective than repeated medication trials over time. We offer competitive and transparent self-pay and maintenance pricing options for those without insurance approval.

Conditions like mild to moderate depression, anxiety, Bipolar Depression, PTSD, chronic headaches or migraines, and tinnitus are not typically covered by insurance. For these, self-pay options are available.

We also provide fair and transparent self-pay rates for individuals who do not qualify for insurance coverage but are good candidates for TMS. We only provide TMS when we feel there is sufficient evidence base and safety data. Rates as listed in our forms prior to the intake evaluation. Importantly, no additional fees are charged for treating multiple conditions when using insurance for concurrent Major Depression.
