This typically involves feelings of deep sadness or hopelessness, apathy, excessive sleeping, overeating, and difficulty starting activities.

This is marked by euphoria or severe irritability, boundless energy, impulsive actions and thoughts, rapid speech, and an increase in goal-directed activities.

Depression Symptoms:

  • Persistent despair and hopelessness.
  • Disinterest in activities.
  • Fatigue and feelings of worthlessness.
  • Negative outlook and disturbed thoughts.
  • Changes in appetite and sleep patterns.
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

Mania Symptoms:

  • Elevated mood or agitation.
  • Distractibility and feelings of grandeur.
  • Fast-paced speech and overflowing ideas.
  • Hallucinations or delusional thoughts.
  • Reduced need for sleep.
  • Impulsive behaviors and poor decision-making.


Although repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is not currently FDA-approved for treating Bipolar Disorder. As it stands, TMS therapy might not be covered by insurance, but it remains an option for those struggling with prolonged, treatment-resistant bipolar depression.
TMS has been shown to be safe and well-tolerated, with a slight risk of precipitating mania, which must be monitored.
